What's the difference between regular cherries and black cherries?

There’s actually no such thing as “regular” cherries - all cherries have a name, and their differing characteristics are mainly based on the area in which they grow. However, by “regular” I assume you mean red cherries? Those are better in pies, as they can be fairly tart, while black cherries are sweet for eating right off the stem.

It’s a different plant sort. Like white and red currants. Or like Orange and yellow carrots. Or like green and red apples. They grow on a different tree.

Black cherries tend to be sweeter and larger than the other ones.
