Do anorexics purge and are there bulimics who do not purge?

Well, I was reading a lot of old postings on this site in regards to eating disorders. I realized a piece of information many people don’t seem to realize. Anorexic people can make themselves throw up and it would still be anorexia. Bulimic people don’t always make themselves throw up. There are bulimics who have never made themselves throw up. Did you know this?

Yes, but I’ve known multiple people with the diagnosis of bulimia that binge and then do other things to purge. For example, excessive exercise, laxatives, and things like that.

There are a few - but it’s not common. Buliemics binge on foods (overeat) and then usually feel guilty in which they go into purging. It’s a process and purging almost always come after binging.

yes, we learn all about the DSM criteria in counseling, however, unless you’re diagnosing someone or doing research I dont see what difference it makes..
