Did the Holocaust happen During wwII?

Sadly there are few links back to this earlier tragedy. Perhaps you can peruse the October 1919 American Hebrew archives. As I’ve said, my confusion is construed by this periodical and you as a student of history may be a better judge than myself as to it’s accuracy. Here is a quote:

“Six million men and women are dying; eight-hundred-thousand children cry for bread. And this fate is upon them through no fault of their own, through no transgression of the law of God or man; but through the awful tyranny of war and a bigoted lust for Jewish blood. In this threatened holocaust of human life …” [The American Hebrew, Oct. 31, 1919, Nbr. 582]

As to the lol…it was meant as an nervous indicator of my incurring correction…not intended to belittle the lives of anyone lost to the malicious machinations of the holocausts men have visited on their fellows. Spare me the self righteousness.

According to the paper I source…6 million Russian Jews were either dead or dying..in the Ukraine in 1919…maybe this is the source of my confusion…lol

Like she said, before and during, the persecution of jews (and others) began long before the world war began and continued through the entire period.

I’ve been debating as to whether or not I should justify such a self apparent question with a response. But I’ll bite and presage the followup with a presumptive reply. They were killed. Never for an agenda that benefitted them. Just as dead nonetheless. Numbers that tumble upon each other in heaps and graves just as full to them.

I’ve confided the ignorance. I’ve conceded the scholarship. Anything else itching under your skin that needs a scratch of my forfeiting will need stay aflame. That will never be surrendered. I am no party to your pity…amoeba…when it concerns value of life. Trot that trick pony in front of another.

I’ve also had numerous family members killed…fighting in wars that weren’t seeking their best interest. Please excuse me if I don’t humor your defensiveness in lieu of the terrible price paid by many of our forebears.

SO just because people that teach from a book and that didn’t experience the event say its true means I have to believe it? The Holocaust is WAYYY overplayed. The Nazis didnt just kill jews, they screwed everyone over. There were less than 6 million jews killed. Most were just innocent non jews. ALso Mao Zedong and Stalin killed more people than the Nazis did. But the Holocaust is more ‘trendy’ to talk about because the jews franchiesed it.

the ukrainian pogroms and the violence that occurred in the 1900s (and before) are well known. however they are on a much smaller scale than the holocaust with only 30,000 - 70,000 jews killed vs. 6,000,000…

the response in europe for hundreds of years was to blame the jews for whatever strife they were experiencing, round them up and then kill them.

surely no one on this site is either denying this happened or trying to justify what occurred.

do you know exactly how Israel was formed? I may not agree with what is going on there today, but to say that millions of people across the European continent some how all got together and fabricated millions of people being killed, so that the British would give them a place to take refuge is the most perposterous thing I have ever heard… what about the graves and the concentration camps found by the Allies? did the Jews also build those in a giant conspiracy? or was everyone in on this little scheme?

and even after the war ended… Many of the European Jews who survived the persecution and death camps had nowhere to go after V-E Day, May 8, 1945. Not only had Europe been practically destroyed but many survivors did not want to return to their pre-war homes in Poland or Germany. Jews became Displaced Persons (also known as DPs) and spent time in helter-skelter camps, some of which were located at former concentration camps. The preferred migration destination for almost all survivors of the genocide was a Jewish homeland in Palestine. That dream eventually came true for many. The British government began sending DPs to camps on Cyprus in August 1946. DPs shipped to Cyprus were then able to apply for legal immigration to Palestine. The British Royal Army ran the camps on the island. Armed patrols guarded the perimeters to prevent escape. Fifty-two thousand Jews were interned and 2200 babies were born on Cyprus between 1946 and 1949 on the island.

the jews that returned to their homes in germany, poland, etc were often beaten or killed. the jews that were allowed to travel to palestine were placed by britain in armed camps on cyprus.

before the war, jews were persecuted. during the war, jews were killed. after the war, jews were persecuted.

and so it goes…

and as for the self righteousness…all of my father’s family killed in the camps… all of my mother’s family killed in the camps…

more defensive than self righteous…

I know there were thousands of pogroms set up and functioning and thousands of jews killed but not 6,000,000. that was the german holocaust upon the jews.

Well, aside from the overwhelming physical evidence recovered by Allied and Soviet forces as they liberated the camps, you also have many people alive today who lived through the Holocaust.

Of all the points you make, I think this one is definately valid. Stalin’s industrialization of the USSR, and Mao’s Great Leap Forward in China resulted in staggering loss of human life. I do agree that knowledge of these events should be more widespread. But the reason…

…the Holocaust gained more visibility largely because the perpetrators of it were defeated in war and faced trial quickly after it was over. So there was nothing to suppress the evidence (although the SS certainly tried). Stalin and Mao stayed in power after their genocidal policies, and full knowledge of what they did would not become available to the international community until years after they died.
