If your doctor told you the baby passed away, then yes, you probably had a miscarriage. Miscarriages in early pregnancy are very common and are often due to chromosomal abnormalities.

Repeat ultrasounds are often done a week or two later just to make sure. Sometimes the initial ultrasound was just done too early to detect the heartbeat because the woman was not as far along in the pregnancy as she thought.

During a miscarriage, you may feel abdominal pain, and you may notice some bleeding or spotting. These symptoms might not show up immediately, however. Many times the baby passes away a few weeks before the woman gets any symptoms of miscarriage.

When a woman loses an unborn baby early in pregnancy, the baby often comes on its own out within about a week. So you may notice bleeding, clots, and cramps then. Medication is sometimes used to make the baby come out faster. Your doctor also may decide to remove the baby.

When you have cramps and bleeding, avoid intercourse and tampons for a week or two at least. If you symptoms become very bad, then call your doctor.

Do you recall having any kind of bleeding in the last month, nausea or breast tenderness? Another warning sign could have been a gush of fluid from your vagina but no pain or bleeding. There had to have been some sort of symptom, that you had a miscarriage!

I suggest going to a different doctor, or get them to do a pregnancy test thing, maybe do an xray?
