Who here knows of a way to determine if a person has Aspergers Syndrome?

i think i might?

Answer #1

See a qualified mental health professional for a clinical interview, possibly followed by some testing if they recommend it.

Short of that, you can look in what’s called the DSM-IV (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual, version 4), or the Australian equivalent, to see the official diagnostic criteria. But be cautious about that. It’s very easy for a lay person to think that any number of mental health diagnoses apply to them.

Answer #2

yes, i know. Due to Confirmation Bias. it makes us think we have something just because we display some, or many symptoms associated with it. I’m just worried that getting officially evaluated will impair future jobs

Answer #3

My daughter was referred by her doctor to a child psychologist for her diagnosis. For the record, she’s quite intelligent and gifted…At any rate, if you’re as lucid as you appear to be in your typing skills, I would have to say you probably don’t have it.

Answer #4

I know what you mean. I actually, for much of my younger years, had horrible grammar, and spelling. However i dedicated myself to changing this. However my hand-writing is appalling beyond belief. But i think thats simply due to a lack of motor co-ordination skills

Answer #5

In the USA, your health records are confidential (except to your insurance company), and your employer would not have access to them - let alone a merely prospective employer. Is that different in Australia?

Answer #6

Someone close to me and who I love has Aspergers, and here are some symptoms, however, you may NOT have it, so get examined. Here are some, though: -Mood swings-one minute you’e on top of the world, the next you’re throwing thing out your window -You change your mind a lot -Everything HAS to be perfect, exactly the way you want it -You are highly anti-social and despise getting involved with interactions. This makes you extremely shy. Of course, there are many more, only these are a few and chances are you may not even have it. Could you maybe describe it a bit more? Why do you think you have it? Are you most of the things listed above?

Answer #7

Oh, and most are highly clever and can be very good with numbers and problem solving (:

Answer #8

You need to include a mental health record for some jobs, i believe
