Would you describe him as an alpha male?

I have this professor at college. A little detail—— he’s in his early 40’s, and an obnoxious bastard. On one hand, he’s an academic genius, extremely knowledgeable on his subject. His style of teaching can keep people on the edge, even whilst discussing the most boring portions. He’s, to put in in a sentence—-ABSOLUTELY GREAT WITH HIS SUBJECT. However, on the other hand, he’s got a severe attitude problem. As in, he sometimes makes sweeping offensive, even downright heartless comments. For example, he believes that education should be the sole prerogative of Elites, or that Blind students don’t deserve special favour. Etc etc…you get the idea. On one hand, he’s very charismatic, and on the other, a downright “*“ who doesn’t seem to realize how offensive he really is being to others. He tends to have unrealistically high expectations from students while writing an answer, and also grades his favourites higher than he normally would otherwise.

He also, albeit subtlely, tries to imply that he is the best teacher ever and all other teachers on the subject are inferior or less knowledgeable.

I want to know your opinion on this person. Please be as detailed as you can…I need it.

Is he an alpha male?

Answer #1

Can I be perfectly honest here? I don’t think he is an alpha male. I think that he’s trying really hard to give the impression that he is, almost too hard. An alpha male is, by definition, a confident leader who commands respect without having to imply that he deserves it. In my experience, someone who insults others and is domineering generally lacks confidence and tries to mask it with an aggressive personality. So no, I wouldn’t describe him as an alpha male. I would describe him as a beta male pretending to be an alpha male.

Answer #2

To be an alpha male you have the respect rather by birth right or by example. Like Kins or Heros. Its not self Proclaimed

Answer #3

Look around to see how others treat him, and see if you can pick up on what others think about him. The alpha male will be respected by the vast majority, and I’m guessing that if you took a look around, most people don’t respect him as a person. They may listen intently in his lectures, and excel in his class as a result of his great teaching techniques, but all that means is that he’s a good teacher. Which is nothing to be snuffed at- we need better teachers! But it doesn’t make him an ‘alpha male’ and it certainly doesn’t make him some super-human. Everyone is good at something.

Answer #4

In order for him to be alpha others have to recognize and acknowledge his superioity. Sure, he has some academic chops but his arrogance and sense of entitlement will always rub people the wrong way. He sounds like what we call a prima donna. Vain, egotistical, dismissive of others, and has a highly inflated self-esteem.

Answer #5

I would say he isn’t but u gotta tell me what dos he wear, is he rich, etc. All alphas are rich, fashion, intelligent(not nerd obviously)and maybe hot and toned

Answer #6

He sounds like a narcissistic @sshole, actually. Extremely full of himself. I’d say he needs to feel a bit of humiliation… take him off his high horse.

Answer #7

Yes, you’re correct. His daddy was a top bureaucrat of the country, or so I’d heard. He’s also a compulsive perfectionist. Also, he gives off that “I-don’t-give-a-damn-what-you-are” attitude.

Answer #8

Possibly narcissistic personality disorder? Of course having a personality disorder is not mutually exclusive from being an alpha male. In order to determine that, one must examine how others view and treat him.

Answer #9

LOL. Most of us in our class are put off by his overbearingly intimidating body language, but there are a few who worship his “Power Personality”.
