Hang in there while we get back on track
I was… “defiant” myself as a kid. When my parents took away my privelages it only made me madder at them. Usually I threw tantrums to let them know I wasn’t happy. I was sad a lot as a kid and they never sat down with me and explained that we don’t always get what we want in life, or why I didn’t get what I wanted. My parents ignored me until I stopped crying and the whole time all I could think was “what’s wrong? can’t they see I’m sad?” So I think if you keep it simple and explain to your 6 year old then they will understand better. Kids might talk simple but they’re smarter than they seem. The defiant ones are always the smartest because they feel underestimated when you treat them… well like 6 year olds ha ha. In your explanation if you give a punishment, tell the kid why he/she is getting punished and what you believe about the situation… General stuff like that. Be clear and use simple words also. Speak on the level that a 6 year old speaks. It might be a lot of work but it’s all I got. I think it would also save one more scarred child hood. I felt neglected…
cambei’s advice was spot-on.
Kids do feel neglected and angry when you give them a time-out or take away their privileges.
You should talk to your child about what he did wrong, and why it is a bad thing.
If he still doesn’t listen, then you should start confiscating some of his privileges one by one.
take away there privaleges this works for people of every age when you take away soemthing they love or enjoy, thats a punnishment and theyll be more likley not to do it again because they dont want to loose whatevere you take away try things like taking away there internet (if they go on it) time, there tv time, there favourite toy or game or not allow them to do something they wanted to like see a movie, rent there fave movies, go somewere, ect
ever watch nanny 911? should give you some pretty good advice. best way to change behavior tho is to make sure they know why they are being punished
