Anyways, you better hope and pray (if you think it will help) a meteorite doesnt smash into earth now, because you sure as hell would burn with all of us, dont even for a second think someone is gonna grab you and a few million out of the sky to be saved, open da eyes lady!!!

Not to sound crude, but are you seriously asking this??? Agreed with germanyflyer Religious people are really dense, aren’t they. Everything comes to an end. The sun will eventually die out & when that happens the world will loose its heat source less the sun engulfs the earth first when it starts to die. Before that happens the earth will be thrown into chaos when the moon drifts away. The moon is what keeps the earth spinning on an axis. Over the centuries it has been drifting. Without the moon we’ll have random hours of night & day. & Not to mention an asteroid could hit at any time. There’s been many close calls(not like NASA or the government will release the information pertaining to how many). If those don’t happen the super-massive-black-hole in the center of the universe will suck us in or when the universe either rips apart, collapses together, or whatever the earth will end.

No offense but, DUH What, do you actually expect it to last forever??? A commit may & destroy it, man may destroy it, or eventually the sun will explode & destroy it, or if nothing else the super massive black hole in the middle of the universe will kill us all. The word will end, it’s not just mere rumor. Everything will end, even the universe. It’s not a matter of will it end, it’s a matter of WHEN.

Anyway, in addition to Mikeh’s answer, I would like to add: Gamma rays, and the fact sun could be blocked out by something and that if a big enough body would pass by earh, we could get pulled out of our orbit. And, of course, Iraques launching a nuclear missile at somone.

If the world manages to keep from getting pummeled by some large object (now believed to be how our moon formed!), then it will end when our sun ends in ~5 billion years. It’s unlikely humans would still exist by then. The most probable end-of-humanity scenarios as I see them:

• weapons (nukes or something even worse)
• global pandemic (possibly a man created virus)
• the evolution of a new species that rapidly depletes oxygen from the atmosphere
• large impact event

According to the Bible in the book of Revelation there will indeed be a new earth: Rev 20:15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. Rev 21:1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and >> the first earth were passed away <<; and there was no more sea - only God knows the time of these events.

What does the bible have to do with this question? Who do religious people keep answering these questions without using ‘facts’ or ‘evidence’? This is not a religious question, it is a scientific question. It just happens to be in the religious section of this site.

Of course the world could end. Did you see the asteroid hit Jupiter a couple years ago? It would have annihilated the earth in one poof. The earth is very young… it will not be here in 5 billion years – a collision could occur or the sun with slowly turn into a red giant and we are gone. It is very simple really.
