hypoglycemia and diabetes are two very different things. the symptoms above apply more to diabetes mellitus (as it’s actually called) dependent on when and how it manifests determines if it’s type I or type II.

type I is where you go straight on to insulin because your pancreas (islets of langerhans, which are hormone secreting glands) stops working or makes nearly nothing compared to what our body needs. no known conclusive cause and no cure I’m aftraid.

type II is when the diabetes starts by normally, diet control and then tablets onto insulin injections. very unuseual over 25 years old though.

hypoglycemia is quite common, I’m a nurse and I often suffer with it in my 13 hour shift. you get the shakes, jelly like feeling inside, and a diar need for food. my sugers go to about 3.0 when I get like that.

the best thing to do is to eat regular, small snacks and make sure there slow release carbohydrates…make sure you eat at set times, and get a blood sugar test done if you can. do you know a nurse or someone else who is diabetic? you could get them to test you, but you will only get an accurate reading when you are actually low, make sure you change the lancet first for health and safety reasons.

Just get checked out…I’m hypo and if you are feeling thoses stmptoms about 2 hourse after you eat then there is a good chance that you are. Hypoglycemia is VERY RARE in people who are not diabetic, but this doesn’t mean that you aren’t. just get it checked out.

also, if you had type I you would loose lots and lots of weight in a very very short time. my husband lost a stone in 1 week when he developed type I

Answer #4

sorry! the type I over the age of 25 us unuseual - naughty me! type II is, unfortuently, becoming more and more common with younger people…

Im hypogmlycemic, most of my family is I have 2 eat every few hrs or I get a headache and I start 2 feel sick. I get really pale I start shaking, and 1 time I actually passed out because I hadnt eaten 4 like 5 hrs. My dad almost passed out in the middle of a store, the point is if only after a few hrs of not eating you fell sick, you get pale, you start shaking or you get dizzy, then you could be hypoglycemic. Just try 2 make sure you eat every few hrs, it can b something small like an apple or something, just try 2 make sure you have a snack handy at all times. And if this doesnt work, then you should go 2 your doctor and c if he will put you on some sort of medication. I hoped that helped.

the only way you wil be able to find out is to have a test.

if it’s hypoglycemia, then the only time you wil get accurate results is when you’re hypo-ing. if it’s diabetes, then the doctor will probably ask you to do a 12 hour fast blood test.

please get checked out, type I diabetes is very very aggresive, if you start to get thrush or anything, these signs are very indicative or a more serious problem.

don’t post any more messages - go to your doc instead! and let us know! good luck :OD

SYMPTOMS:

Excessive thirst and appetite Increased urination (sometimes as often as every hour) Unusual weight loss or gain Fatigue Nausea, perhaps vomiting Blurred vision In women, frequent vaginal infections In men and women, yeast infections Dry mouth Slow-healing sores or cuts Itching skin, especially in the groin or vaginal area Call Your Doctor If: You feel nauseated, weak, and excessively thirsty; are urinating very frequently; have abdominal pain; or are breathing more deeply and rapidly than normal — perhaps with sweet breath that smells like nail polish remover. You may need immediate medical attention for ketoacidosis — a potentially deadly complication of type 1 diabetes. You are having weakness or fainting spells; are experiencing a rapid heartbeat, trembling, and excessive sweating; and feel irritable, hungry, or suddenly drowsy. You could be developing hypoglycemia — low blood sugar that can occur with diabetes treatment. You may need to eat or drink a carbohydrate snack quickly to avoid more serious complications.
