Can I have contracted HIV from cutting hair?

I’ve never heard of that. Unless she had an open wound on her scalp. I would get tested to make sure. Next time you can use Nitrile surgical gloves to minimize the risk and enjoy peace of mind.

If you’re concerned you can go to Planned Parenthood to see if you’ve contracted HIV. But I highly doubt it.

No way. You can’t contract HIV unless you have sexual contact with someone who has HIV or you rub their body fluid (other than saliva) in an open wound. You can contract HIV by

• sexual contact.
• blood donation where the blood comes from an infected person.
• organ donation, again, if the donor is infected.
• touching an open wound of an infected person while you yourself are also wounded and having their blood enter through your wound.
• using an injection needle that has been used by an infected person
• another infection path is childbirth and breastfeeding. But an adult person can’t contract the virus that way, obviously.

You can NOT contract HIV by

• kissing an infected person
• using the same bathroom as the infected person
• accidentally using the toothbrush of an infected person (unless you both have heavy gum bleedings)
• using the same pool as an infected person
• being twinged by a mosquito that has twinged an infected person before
