Why is Cisco freezing my computer?

I live in the dorms at my university and I have to log in to cisco to access the network here. It worked fine for a month then my computer started freezing, usually when on Youtube or Netflix or Skype, but every once in awhile it will freeze no matter what, I just have to wait it out and it starts working as usual again. I went home for a weekend (no cisco) and it worked fine. How do I fix this? It is getting really annoying.

Answer #1

It sounds like your’e using a network made available by the school youre attending. I bet they intend for you to use it to study, as a research tool. Find the network administrator and ask them about security or banned sites. Those media sites you mentioned may be blocked by the administration.

Answer #2

I don’t think that there’s much you can do yourself. Send an e-mail to the network administrator in your university and describe your problem. Ask them for help. I am sure there if there is an easy solution for it they will know.

Do not forget to tell them what sort of machine you are using (for example Laptop Dell Inspiron 15R) and what programs you have installed (for example windows vista home edition).

Answer #3

Programs like Skype, ** Instant Messenger, or online games that use the internet for their own functions may be blocked for security too.

Answer #4

operating system ?

Answer #5

That would be a useful information to an admin, probably. I don’t think she uses a Linux, If she had a MacBook, she’d probably mention it, so it will probably be some version of Windows.

Answer #6

They aren’t blocked, it’s a dorm network here they don’t block those since its like our home network now.

Answer #7

Is the browser locking up or the computer? can you still do things offline like ms word?

Answer #8

It sounds like a local problem(meaning specific to your computer). check to make sure your wireless card drivers are up-to-date and correctly installed, run an antivirus scan (not that it will help much), and if all else fails create a livecd or liveusb of a linux distro to test if it’s your operating system or your hardware.
