How do children get cigarettes?

I was on the bus today and we drove by an elementary school and there were a bunch of grade 7&8 students in a group smoking. I was so shocked, even though I guess I shouldn’t be… but still. Thats crazy! It really bothers me a lot. Do their parents not know? Who is to blame for this behavior…Parents?Teachers? and it makes me wonder how they even have access to ciggarettes.

Yeah I live in Canada and there are a lot of young people like 10 year olds smoking. I have a little sister who is 10 and she will come home and tell me and it scares me to think that like she 10 and she could be smoking…it’s so like different than when I was younger I don’t remeber doing that or even where to find it. I know a lot of people steal them from their parents or friends

Answer #2

I know people of the age of fifteen who hang around a close to a super market and they ask every young adult who walks by if they’ll go buy smokes for them, if they give them the money. It usually works. Then theirs the people who their parents just le them smoke: they bring them to school, and sell them singly to their friends.

Answer #3

I’m not really surprised, I just… I don’t know. Its hard to explain. Like I feel surprised but I know that I shouldn’t be at all. You know what I mean? Just bugs me. In Canada you have to be 19 to buy cigarettes.

XYLITOLISLUXURIOUS = her profile says she’s 18yr.

I don’t know what the rules are in canada. in england kids tend to get older friends/family to buy cigarettes from shops for them. it’s very common to see kids smoking. never surprises me.

Answer #8

They can get them from any number of places. Older friends, or brothers and sisters, Parents (which is awful), even some clerks will sell them to anyone without bothering, or caring, about ID. There are some kids in my school who go around begging for food so they can use their lunch money to buy weed and ciggaretes. The worst of it is almost everyone feeds them. It’s unfortunate, but their isn’t much you can do short of being a snitch. I would also if anyone is to blame it’s most likely parents for not caring or watching enough. I have a hard time seeing any teacher encouraging smoking at all.
