Do you think children should have a choice whether they go to a traditional school or a trade school after the 6th grade?

I think all children learn differently and while my oldest son is very good at the tradition school, my youngest son struggles with his reading. He is very good at science and math, very creative, but has a problem reading. This is the same problem I had in school and one of the reasons I was a high school dropout. I think if I would of had the choice of a trade school I would have stayed in. I do have my BS not and am working on my MBA, but I still think this would have been a great option.

Answer #1

I think it should be up to them if thats what they want to do… and do research on it

Answer #2

I say yes. Children should pick the choice they think tis the best. If something goes wrong over there, then they would learn from their mistakes. If they stay were they are, they won’t be able to learn what life is all about: making mistakes and learning from them.

Answer #3

I think its a good idea. Here we end public school at 8th. grade and instead of going to high school I think it would be good for kids to have a choice. I think traditional high school does teach a lot of stuff that really is not of interest to a lot of people and will not serve them later in life. (there is so much stuff I learned in High school that I have never used in my adult life)

Answer #4

If the child is responsible enough to make that decision, I say yes. But it all falls back on the parent’s as well.

Answer #5

I think it should because kids have to have their two cents on what they want education wise, although sometimes you do have to guide them because if it was up to them then they would choose to drop out and be done. But I don think that they should have a choice so they are happy, that can also meaby not have them be missareble in school.

Answer #6

Well the reason I say this, an I have a video on it posted, is because people do learn differently, and I feel we lose a lot of very talented people from the traditional education system. I feel the reason I did make it was from my tech school in the US Army, this provided me the skills I needed to go back to a traditional college.

Answer #7

Kid, working on a tech type school to make improvements that could help the world.

Answer #9

Yeah I think you are right they do learn differently so if you and your child think its a good fit for him than do it… it might just be the best thing for him

Answer #10

yah. they should be old enought to make that choice for themselfs

Answer #11

Yes I know this and I work with my kids daily on things I feel will help them make it in this world. I feel it is the parents responsibility to give the child the tools they need in life to succeed. I want my children to be successful not only will this help them, but I hope they don’t live at home in the mid 20’s.

Answer #12

Yes, yes kids need the choice and their are some people that would rather have a trade than general knowledge. I think if we where more diverse with education it would improve society.

Answer #13

No. There are basics you get from a traditional education that you’re not going to get from trade school. Education in high school doesn’t really provide you with the ability to do anything in a practical sense. But it does encourage learning, curiosity, thinking in different ways, the ability to analyze and think critically. These are not things you get from trade school. In the U.K. You can be done after the 11th grade (there’s 13 grades). I think that would be fine. If a person chooses to be done when they’re 16, then that’s up to them. I do not think a person should have that choice at the age of 12 or 13. And here’s the thing. You can go back and figure it out if you leave at 16. If you make a mistake, it’s not a huge deal. Trying to catch up when you leave at 12, that’s a whole other story. And I definitely do not think a 12 year old is mature enough to make that decision.
