Sounds like you’re already onto it —

Someone that’s cheating — husband or wife — will sooner or later make a mistake.

The reason is, cheating is really a big lie, and sooner or later, you forget something, leave something behind, forget to remove something… basically, because it’s not natural for a person to cheat, they over-compensate by either becoming WAY lovey-dovey, or suddenly are working late…all the time… are not reachable when they used to be, they’re taking unusual care of themselves…

There’s cell phone history, there’s e-mail, there’s computer things left over. Unusual money missing from the bank account… Phone bill strangly not there… anything that would lead to possible evidence of something they’re not supposed to be doing — they’ll want to get rid of in some way.

There is no one “best way” to catch someone —

If you’ve known someone for a long enough time, you’ll know what their normal behaviour is, and when things don’t quite add up

Your instincts are usually your best place to start.

I would warn that unless you actually catch someone in the act, that you tread carefully until you know for sure. To confront someone with no evidence will only defeat your intention.

How do I know all this you ask? I had my ex-wife cheat on me, and a more recent girlfriend… In the former case — there was never enough actual “evidence”, but all the signs were there. In the case of the girlfriend — I think she just WANTED to get caught! Short of actually knowing in advance enough to go to the same hotel they went to, I had everything IN PRINT!!! because she left it on the computer… almost in plain site!

Short of surprise visits, there’s really no simple way to do it unless you hire an investigator…
