Cheated on boyfriend of 4 years...need help

I cheated on my boyfriend of 4 years about a year and a half ago. I just recently told him and he’s devestated. I only cheated once, but he is so hurt. He told me that he’s willing to give me another chance, but I have no idea what I should do to make it up to him or begin to gain his trust back.

During the time that I cheated there were a lot of things going on in my life. He and I were arguing a lot and memories of being molested as a child began to resurface. My grades were also quite horrible. He knows ALL of these things too. I just feel horrible, but I can’t seem to convince him that I won’t make the same mistake again and that people CAN change.

Its good to hear that you no what you did was horrible and wrong. Its also good that you told him finally becos he deserves to know. You have to expect him to be very hurt, doesnt matter if it was only one time, now he is prob thinking ‘as soon as things get rough in the future shes gonna go run off with someone else and cheat instead of doing everything to work it out with me’ becos hun, things will always get rough, its life. Now that he has said he wants to give you another chance, atleast be grateful you havent lost him becos he could have picked up and left that easy. All you can do now is take it day by day and prove to him that he can trust you again. With every situation that comes up do the right thing by him, when he gets a lil frustrated or insecure, be understanding becos he has every right to be and reassure you love only him, and in time he may learn how to trust you again.
