What's a good (cheap) camera for taking distance shots?

I have a HP SB360. I went to a concert of my FAVORTIE band ever, and wasn’t a overly large distance away. When I got home , I looked at my pictures and noticed most of the pictures were blurry and strage-looking. Just wondring if there are any cheap cameras that maybe would be better for this sort of thing?

Concert photography is always a challenge. Lighting can be ok to terrible and chances are you will shoot from a distance. To get decent shots you need a lens that is long (telephoto) and fast (wide=gathers more light). Unless you are close to the stage don’t expect much from any point-and-shoot camera. You may be better off with a film camera. Since everyone is dumping their film cameras for digital you can pick up a good film SLR body for a song and if you buy into a lens system that isn’t compatible with digital SLRs the lenses are cheap as well. You can purchase what used to be a high end camera system decades ago for a fraction of what it used to sell for. Look for a zoom or telephoto lens f/3.5 or faster (lower numbers are faster). At concerts I shot color film from ISO 400 to 1600 depending on the lighting and at really dark places like bars I usually shot black and white and pushed Tri-X to 3200.

Thanks, thats a good idea! The concert I went to had crazy lighting, it was awesome though, I auctally got better pictures with my flash off than on. I had to wait out some of the crazer light shows like orange/purple because the pictures with/without flash didn’t work. I will look into your idea though :)
