What do you think of a career in chartered accounting?

Answer #1

It sounds great indeed. it is even great if the pay is good. :-)

Answer #2

I’m busy with that and have 3 more years to go (started with my articles this year). The studying SUCKS big time, I don’t know of a single person who even remotely liked what they were studying and in your honours year you easily spend between 10 and 12 hours (not kidding) a day in front of the books. It’s a tough and long course, it can break your confidence and make you think you are depressed) The work is also not that interesting, but this varies from person to person. I find it to be ok and others hate it.) If I had it over, I would study something else and so would a ton of my friends doing it with me. I’m not saying don’t do it, it can work and you do get paid well and 100% of us do get jobs because there is a shortage, but really go and think about this, if you’re only doing it for the money then you are wasting your time in my opinion.

Answer #3

It sound’s like a very good career. Although a lot of work! Were talking about business and finance here. All in all, if I’m not interested in accounting so I dont think too much of it but it sounds like a great job.

Answer #4

The auditing job actually sucks for most. (Well most that I know of)

Answer #5

Well there is no doubt of payment for a CPA , but it’s really difficult to become certified chartered accountant

Answer #6

Well i am currently an undergraduate student who trying to get his bachelor degree in accounting first . there is a long way to go , and my professor told it’s the most profitable job but hard to complete the degree. Yea i know accounting is boring but i think for a business student accounting is the best profession . What do you think of majoring in finance ?

Answer #7

I think majoring in finance is a waste of time (but that is my opinion). Rather then follow the chartered account route, because when you are a chartered account then you can go and work in finance without any extra qualifications, whereas if you major in finance you limit yourself to finance only. I got my bachelors in accounting two years ago and did my honours last year. Also it isn’t the most profitable job, the pay is good and you do have lots of opportunities, but you’ll earn more as an actuary or a specialist doctor. The degree is ok to get, the honours is extremely hard to make.
