What canvas size does one use to do digital paintings on Photoshop?

When I try painting, (People from far away with a background) And zoom in, it gets all pixally and I can’t do details. Does anyone know the right settings to use? I’m using Photoshop CS6

For something like this: (remove the spaces) Not the exact pic but that’s what I mean by far away and with detailed face.

I usually use 11x8 or 12x9 for landscape style

Answer #2

More important for that would be resolution than physical size, unless you plan on making prints of it and want to print it at a specific size.

For raster sign designs I usually work with 600dpi, sometimes higher if they want a lot of detail. If its really big (like a 4ft x 8ft) I will go as low as 300dpi, but no lower. 300dpi is the minimum for whats considered “ready to print”.

After you are done with it you can always save a down sampled copy for posting online or using as a background.
