Can you help with these math problems?

I don’t want the answers. I just have NO idea how to do this crap! Solve each equation. Check your soloution. (After the letters, its supposed to be an exponent!)

  1. 3n2-2n-5=0
  2. 4x2=x+3
  3. 6x2-11x-10=0
  4. 2p2=-21p-40
  5. 12x2-15=-8x
  6. 16y2-2y-3=0
  7. 4a2-18a+5=15 It probably sounds like I’m cheating, but I’m really not. I don’t know how to do the steps!! Factor each tronomial, if possible. Of not, write prime.
  8. 3m2-8m-3
  9. 6x2+5x-6
  10. 18x2-27x-5
  11. 18y2+9y-5
  12. 8x2-4x-24
  13. 48x2+22x-15
  14. 4x2+26x-18
  15. 6x2-7x+18
  16. 18+11y+2y2

You don’t need to do all of them. And remember, I DO NOT want the answers. Just help me with them! Thanks.

Answer #1

hmm well I dont know how to help you without actually doing them… but

  1. 3n2 - 2n - 5 = 0

ok so factoring… first of all 3n2 can only be 3n x (n) and -5 can either be -1 x 5 or 1 x (-5) so…

(3n x ) (n x ) = 0 (so trial and error should tell you where the 1 and 5 go)

to check your answers… n= 5/3 or n= -1

  1. 4a2-18a+5=15

4a2 - 18a + 5 - 15 = 0

4a2 -18a - 10 = 0

again 4a2 could be 2a2 times 2a2 or 4a2 times 1a2 and -10 could be -5 x 2 or 5 x -2 or -10 x 1 or 10 x -1 just trial and error it…

  1. 4x2 = x + 3

make it into one equation

4x2 - x - 3 = 0

4x2 could either be 2x2 times 2x2 or 4x2 times 1x2… and -3 could either be -1 x 3 or 1 x (-3)… trial and error…

( x ) ( x) =0 x = 1 or x = -3/4

fun mail me if you have any more questions…

also there is a formula to find these answers, just not sure if you’ve used it before?

Answer #2

Okay I don’t really understand the first part of what your asking but I do understand factoring quite well. For example:

  1. 6x^2+5x-6 Okay well to start we look at what adds up to 5 and what multiplys to 6. So we know that 2+3=5 and 3x2=6 so we have found our two factors. Next we look at the 6x^2 and we see that we have to divide it equaly so it multipys to 6. Well we know that 2x3=6 so we have figured out the last part. Now to write the equation. (2x-3)(3x+2) The reason there are negatives is because of the -6 in the equation and we know that a negitive times a negitive equals a positive therefore you write the equation like that. follow these steps for each one. I’ll do the next 3 for you.
  2. 18x^2-27x-5 =(3x-5)(6x+1)
  3. 18y^2+9y-5 =(3y-1)(6y+5)
  4. 8x^2-4x-24 =4(x-2)(2x+3)

If you don’t know if your equation is right then use foil to check it. Good luck
