Can she live with me at 16?

Hi. So heres the issue my girlfriend is 16 and does not like the conditions she is living under. Her step dad treats her like shit and verbally abuses her all the time and she has called me many many times crying her eyes out because they have told her she wasnt part of the family or she does not belong. She has also told me he has hit her in the past. He puts on a really good show but I’ve heard and seen his angry side. My parents are more than willing to take custody of her. But I dont think her mom would like that so can her parents stop her from getting emancipated in new york and moving in with me and my family? I would really appreciate it if you could fully answer this and tell me what we need to do. Also she may be carrying my baby that I want to be ins life and theyre talking about moving to wisconsin and she is scared to death. Please help me… Im begging you!!! thank you

Under a court of law, she cant just move in with you, but she could if her guardians signed for her. For instance you would need a signature from her step parents or whatever for it to be legall, so if they dont care then you have a pretty good chance! hope I helped!

In some states, if a girl is pregnant after a certain she CAN be emancipated strictly because she is pregnant. you would have to call dept of health andsocial services in your area and start there, they should be able to put you in the right direction. This said, if she is NOT pregnant now—I hope you understand that this by no means a reason to TRY to get her pregnant intentionally. Having a baby is a lot of responsibility, time, prenatal care, sleepless nights—getting pregnant just to get out of her house is not a reason to bring a child into this world. I’m certainly not trying to talk down to you or imply you are stupid, but sometimes we consider taking drastic measures if we feel we are trapped and there is no way out!!
Good luck!! Dept of health/social services should be able to point you in the right direction!!

OMG,u poor things!:( well if she was going 2live with you her parents wud have 2sign.cud your parents mayb go and talk to her mam, like explain that day realy want her and it would realy realy be for the best for everyone.you could also legaly marry her with their consent,if they refused you could appeal it court,ud almost certainly win because the baby wud be considered.or can she ask her mam?or has she any relitives they wudnt mind her stayin with?if he ever hits her agen make her go str8 to the police and let them deal with it.its just so unfortunate you cant go to them about verbel/mental abuse aswel, because its just as bad.I grew up being phyicaly and emotionaly abused by my stepfather so I know how awful it is.you heal with time but the scars remain.stick by her, your all shes got.and dont give up.and even if you can not get her out, eventualy she wil b free. best of luck.I realy hope shes ok.please, eider of you funmail me if you need help.like I say,I’ve lived that hell and somehow survivd so il advise ya if I can.xxx

I think a child CAN get emancipated as long as they have a way to support themselves. No parent, in or not in their right mind, willfully lets their child go that easily, especially the abusive ones. Read the “Boy Called It” series. His mom just kept coming for him, even after he thought he was free from her.

yesu can move out a 16 I did just pack up her stuff when her dad is out and go

Answer #6

If the abuse truly warrants, report - you may be in trouble with the Police if you harbor a minor also other charges may enter in.

Answer #7

Yes, her parents can stop her until she 18. She can not get emancipated or legally leave the house without their permission, the cops can bring her back home.

Answer #8

And she can get emancipated without parents permission. She just has to have a good reason.

Answer #9

Ok. This might sound stupid to you, but run away with her. I don’t know. That would be hard with a baby on the way. But go somewhere really far away, find a job, place to live, all that crap. Set up a life and live. Thats what I’m doing. :] Without the baby part. lol.

But other then that, maybe she could get emancipated. Tell the court everything. All she goes though. They might do it.
