can other female dogs feel the affects of another pregnant female??

may sound stupid but really need some help!! I have a 3 1/2 yr old labshepard mix named lady. she was spayed at about a year old. just recently lady has takin on the shape of a pegnant female, knowing she is fixed I’m confused. but wait it gets better, lady has a pen mate named katy she is a weenerbeagle mix. she is not fixed. my husband and I have always kept her away from all males. about a month or so ago she got loose. now she too looks real pregnant her stomach looks as if she swollowed a watermelon. my Q is , is it possible for lady to feel the affects of katy’s pregnancy?? Lady looks and acts preg. but I know there is no way she can be… like I said it maybe stupid but I’m real worried about the both of them???

There might be a chance that Lady caught on with some of Katy’s maternal instincts. However it’s rare (but not unknown) of spayed dogs to have false pregnancies. Some pets that were spayed during the diestrus phase of the reproductive cycle when progesterone level is high can have a false pregnancy even after they are spayed.

Here a link for more info on it, including what to look out for, diagnosis, and treatment: http://www.petplace.com/dogs/pseudocyesis-false-pregnancy/page1.aspx

I have a little sausage dog and every season after she has been on heat she becomes ‘pregnant’ not that she really is though because she is also spayed!! She even gets milk, the vet I took her to said its like a phantom pregnancy and its all to do with hormones. I would recommend getting her checked out because as my little dog got milk and no puppies she got an infection in her nipples which turned into cancer :(

My dog seems like shes pregnant too but im pretty sure she’s not. Although she’s not spayed. Well yah you should really get her checked out at the vet. Wish you luck!
