Can a person with a felony own a corporation?

My little brother who is now 19 was convicted with a felony in Texas. (He was 17 at the time.) He is currently in prison and is ardently pursuing an education. He has found an interest in the AutoCAD class he is taking and is very interested in becoming an architect when he is released and after receiving a degree in architecture. Will he be able to do this? I am not aware of the certifications required for an architect. Also, will he be able to own his own corporation?

Own a corporation, yes, you can at least in California. I’ve read a lot of the corporate regulations for here, however, in texas, they might be slightly different. They’re available online, it might be useful for him to read them to learn more about what kind of buisness structure he likes the best (as each have different pros & cons).

In terms of getting his certification, I’d think he can also do that with a record, but I’m not sure. His school / career center where he’s studying can definitely help him out though.
