Why do they call the last teeth to come in at the very back your wisdom teeth?

I think it is cause they come in when you are older and you just may be wiser, but I am going out on a limb with this one.

You are right! People develop their wisdom teeth during their late teen years, which has been referred to by some as the age of “wisdom” hence the name wisdom teeth. About 35 percent of humans never get their wisdom teeth :D

Answer #2

Your explanation is the same as I have always assumed to be the case, and my dictionary agres, in saying the following: . “… wisdom tooth n one of four backmost teeth: one of the four teeth at the back of each side of the upper and lower jaw of human beings. They are the last teeth to come through.

[Translation of Latin dens sapientiae ; so called because the wisdom teeth usually appear in young adulthood] …” . ….. quoted from Microsoft® Encarta® Premium Suite . dens sapientiae ? ….. http://funadvice.com/r/14v08fkppta .

You are right yes :) not everybody gets wiser as they get older obviously, but technically you should be older and wiser by the time you get them (late teens/early twenties), so they were given that name.

Answer #4

idk but I was always proud that my wisdom teeth grew in well and I never had to get them removed. I feel wiser already.

Answer #5
