Buying a used car from Private Owner

I am buying a 2008 Highlander from this person. The car run amazingly smooth as expected from a 2008 It has clean title, and it is in excellent condition. I want to ask to make sure what to do before handing the money over. What should I keep in mind. I remember that I should write some kinda letter. And have both sign it. Any experience car buyer or seller want to give some advice?

Should I get it inspect by a mechanic. It has very low mileage and drive like new.

Thanks

Chad, my older brother purchased a secondhand nissan skyline 2 years ago via a private seller, the only essential advice is to make sure the car is still not under any financial arrangements.

Not sure what your laws and regulations are in your country, but in Australia if you purchase a vehicle privately and there are debt or the car is still under finance, the new buyer of the vehicle takes over the remaining payment. It’s worth while to contact a financial institute if you are borrowing money to run a check for you or contact one of these organisations that suss out if the vehicle has any outstanding payments on it.

Also, my brother not being very mechanically minded, paid an inspector from RAC to have the vehicle inspected to find if the car was road worthy or had any hidden problems.

He spent an extra $200 to have the above carried out but as my old man would say to him, “ its better to be safe then sorry later on”
