What do I need to know about bunnies?

My parents are letting me get a holland lop bunny. I’ve researched a lot about them, but I just need a little more info. What do they like to eat? What kind of cage(S) do I need? What kind of padding do I need to put in? Any other type of info would be appreciated to.

They like to play , I used to have a bunny & he got fat quick when I didnt play with him enough. They get scared real easily , make sure you cut thier claws cause they tend to get very sharp. & Overall , treat it like a person , cause it has feelings to.

Yah, congrats on getting a bunny, they’re awesome!! I would start off my picking up some rabbit pellets (don’t get guinea pig pellets, they have different nutritional needs), some treats (mine like yogurt drops) and I also make a “trail mix” for my bunny (I buy dehydrated veggies and fruit and mix them together). They also need fresh veggies (lettuce, carrots, etc and I give my guy some fresh fruit too - not a ton, ‘cuz it can be fattening - but he loves bananas and canteloupe). As for cages, I have a two level living cage and he has tons of room for moving plus his litter box (yep, he’s litter trained) and I also bought him a dog exercise pen that I can put up in the living room or outside (when properly supervised by me) so he has lots of room for running and jumping (this is a great place to exercise and he is contained and safe from my dogs). He has toys as well - check your pet store they have great rabbit toys (they need the mental stimulation from these, plus it’s great fun to watch them tossing toys around!). I use shavings for the bottom of his cage and a wood shaving type of cat litter for his litter box.
Most of all shower your rabbit with lots of attention. They are a bit skittish to being handled at first, so make sure when you pick him up you properly support him and keep him close to your body, so he feels secure. The more attention you pay to him the better house pet he’ll be. You might also want to consider neutering/spaying your bunny. I neutered my male rabbit (then he won’t have any cranky dominance issues and plus it made his pee less smelly when he started reaching maturity). Good luck and have fun!!
