British Indian restaurant question

Why in Britain can one go into an indian restaraunt and see on the menu beef curry, chicken curry, prawn curry and ‘meat’ curry which on every occassion when asked, it turns out to be lamb.

Why not have it on the menu as lamb curry?

This question will make sense to those of you who eat out in Indian restaurants in Britain. It has always puzzled me.

Interesting. Is it possibly because Muslim Indians/Pakistanis/Bangladeshis won’t eat pork or shellfish, and Hindu Indians, at the very least, won’t eat beef, but that lamb is a pretty safe meat for anyone who isn’t vegetarian? That’s just a guess.

Do you get mutton curries too? We had one local that did them - much more tasty than lamb. Now I live in France - not much Indian food here…

Its an interesting question. I think, and I could be wrong, the reason is that when you translate the word they use in indian “gosht” (or however you spell it) it translates into meat… They dont really use the word lamb in any of their foods, or none that I can think of, except maybe leg of lamb…

And yes I know indian isnt a language, I’ve just never been able to tell the langs apart…
