breeding with brother & sister dogs

Just purchased boy & girl chichuawa dogs after seeing them together did not have the heart to separate them . Tried my best to keep them away from each other however today they hooked up. I am scared of what might happen to puppies. Will this be a health issue for the pups and mother?

Answer #1

I’d say 50-50 chance I cant say yes or no

Answer #2

There’s a 50/50 chance of health problems. The recessive genes have a high incidence of dominating the genetics with this match. I don’t know when this happened, but you might be able to get a “morning after” shot for her…or let her whelp the pups…it’s a gamble.

I’m pretty sure it can cause health issues for the puppies…I know it causes bad temperament. I bought a dog from a breeder then found out that he was the offspring of a brother and sister, took him to the vet and they said that was most likely the reason he was vicious and snippy! I would talk to a vet, they may be able to answers all your questions…and recommend that you get one of them fixed.

Answer #4

may want to move this to pets& animals.

Answer #5

SPAY AND NEUTER. You should’ve never let brother & sister dogs get to the point of breeding age without altering them. The puppies will most definately have health issues. Spaying and neutering animals can deminish certain cancers and can make them live longer, happier lives. That would be your best bet. Be a responsible pet owner so your dog’s puppies don’t end up in shelters and rescues because no one wanted to deal with their health issues.
