Does getting a Brazilian wax hurt?

Has anyone ever got this done? I’m interested in getting it but I want to know if it hurts really bad and if its worth it? Also.. How long does it last? Are there any risks to getting it done?? Thanks for all your help !! :)

hi there,

I am a beauty therapist and waxing is one of the treatments I do probably the most of!!!

A Brazilian wax, like any waxing can be a little sore, but it varies from client to client! personally I think if the client stays calm rather than freaks out before they’ve even had the first strip pulled always copes a little better! it also depends on the therapist, if she is confident and experienced, she shouldn’t hurt you. what I like to do to put the client at ease is keep chatting about whatever so they take their mind off the waxing, and don’t worry about being shy (if you are) as its our job and its liking doing a brow wax! if your therapist is professional about her job she will never make you feel uncomfortable. at the end of the day we all have the same thing :)

A few pointers before you have your wax:

  1. Don’t apply and lotions, etc. to the area being waxed, skin must be kept clean and dry so the wax will stick well

  2. Make sure your hair is at least 1cm long so it will grip in the wax, but it mustn’t be too long or it will be more sore, and not to short or the hair will not come out.

  3. Don’t be disappointed if all your hairs don’t come out, or if it doesn’t feel completely smooth–clients that have never waxed before or shave, etc. usually never have a clean removal the first time because the hairs will have 2/3 different hair growth stages, so only after a few times of waxing (or more if you have thick hair) will all your hair start have the only one hair growth rate. (hope that made sense)

  4. After your wax DON’T: go to gym, wear tight pants, have a hot bath/shower, apply lotions, or exfoliate for at least 24 hours until the redness goes down and you don’t feel sensitive nay more. if you have had a Brazilian I also recommend not receiving any sexual pleasures for 24 hours as this may also irritate the area (sorry!!) but after that, if you are sexually active, having a Brazilian will be the best thing you ever did :) !!!

There are no risks to being waxed if the salon does not strain their wax (as re-used wax I a serious no-no these days due to hepatitis, etc.) your therapist must use a new spatula on you, and don’t be offended if she is wearing gloves, it is better that way for all! don’t be shy to ask questions, if you are going to a professional salon where they don’t cut corners they shouldn’t hesitate to answer any of your questions. even ask to see the treatment rooms, and take note of cleanliness!! that is very important!!!

The time that your wax last varies from client to client, but after waxing a for a while, your hair growth will definitely slow, which is great!!

One more thing!! make sure you exfoliate with a loofa or gentle exfoliating lotion at least twice a week to avoid in grown hairs, but only do this 2 days after a wax.

Well, that’s about all I think!!

enjoy!!!

hey there, I had my first brazilian last year, went all out & removed everything! It terms of it hurting, its more like a slight pull rather than pain. Was is warm, so it causes a lot of heat where its been applied, but I wouldn’t say that it hurts. Mine lasted about a month. I was told you only need to wait about 4 weeks before you can get it redone. Give it a go, have something you can grip onto (eg, the bed), until you get used to it. I don’t believe there’s any risks other than irritation or allergic reactions, I haven’t had any problems. Good luck to you! =)
