Bluetooth unavailable on macbook

My macbook is about a year old and my bluetooth logo is blanked out. It says bluetooth: not available when I roll over it. What do I do to fix it?

Right-click (or CTRL-click) on the icon. You should see options or you do not have enough privileges.
