Bloody diarrhea in puppy

I have an 8 week old amstaff pitt. This morning he had some blood in his diarreha. He has been getting shots for parvovirus so I dont think its that. he has coccidia though, which is a parasite. so maybe thats why, it says coccidia might give him bloody diarreha, but im just so worried ya konw? and also, if the pup is getting his parvo vac’s can he still get parvo while he’s a puppy?

Answer #1

Your dog will be fine. The meds today will heal this up quickly. You did the right thing getting it checked out.

Answer #2

Yup, if the vet said coccidia, it’s coccidia causing the bloody poop.

It’s highly contagious to other dogs if they come in contact with the poop, so make sure to isolate him if you have other puppies.

Answer #3

Thanks. yea my friends pitt had parvo, he was like 10 weeks old and she wasnt doing anything really to help him, so I stayed up 2 nights straight helping him. but the next night he died while I was holding him. I balled forever:( it was so sad:(((

Answer #4

well we took him to the vet yesterday and thats what she said he had (coccidia). they took a fecal sample so if he had parvo im sure it would have shown up right?

Answer #5

Yeah its a sad thing, I balled too. Yeah I told my mom that it was deadly and the soonest we could take her to the animal hospital was the next day she said, well she survived through the night before we took her but died that night then at the hospital. :( I felt bad like my Mom didnt take it seriously until she heard she died, she felt really bad that she haden’t taken her sooner.

But on a bit of a happier note, Good Luck and I hope your dog gets better soon!

Answer #6

Coccidia will cause bloody poop, 99% of the time. If you know for a fact he has it, that would be the cause of the diahrrhea most of the time.

Parvo can still be caught if he hasn’t had all 3 rounds of his vaccines. But if the bloody diarrhea is his only symptom, and he isn’t shaking, vomiting or twitching, it’s probably the coccidia.

However, I’d suggest taking him to a vet just to be safe. I’m not a doctor :)

Answer #7

I think your puppy eat sumtin..maybe the intestines is wounded.. go to your vet. asap..(it happened to my puppy)

Answer #8

Coccidia is very treatable…you scared me with the lead in to your post, tho…

Answer #9

If it had parvo they would of told you I’m sure. I’m really glad your pup didn’t have parvo because mine got it and died. =[ I was so sad. But I think yours is safe, because they would of told you and also if its getting shots it should have a better chance of not getting it.

Best of Luck. =]
