How to go blonde with peroxide?

I have medium to dark brown hair and I want to dye my hair blonde in the cheapest way without facing my fear of going bald. Can I use hydrogen peroxide to do this? Isn’t that what Kurt Cobain used? And can I do it alone or do I need someone to help me? I don’t really care if it’s a crappy color blonde so long as it’s not orange, exactly. If anyone could let me know, I’d really appreciate it!!

You can do it, but you won’t get it done the first time and probably not without bad damage to your hair. I know when I died my hair black and wanted it blond again my hairdresser used peroxide (I didn’t want anyone expensive) and she had to use it 3 times on my hair and it only came out copper and not blond (this was after numerous hair treatments and conditioning in between). I would suggest that you ask a hairdresser, most of them will give advice for free at least. What they do to is after every bleach to give the hair treatments and you can ask what types they use.

There is a reason some people specialize in hair color. It takes a lot of experience to know how hair color will react to different treatments and how to get it to come out right. A good colorist can be quite expensive though. Odds are against you getting the desired effect using your own concoctions. If you insist on trying to lighten your own hair with peroxide than you can forget about the drug store peroxide. It just isn’t strong enough to lighten your hair. Beauty shops sell stronger peroxide, they often call it “developer” instead of peroxide though. This is because it is used to allow hair to accept color. Buy some 30-volume peroxide and mix it half and half with shampoo. After washing your hair with it the longer you leave it in your hair the more it will lighten it. Follow with a good conditioner. Another thing you might try is “Sun-in” which is a spray that lightens your hair when exposed to heat from a hair dryer or the sun.
