Why do i self bite?

For a little while now ive been biting, more specifically my hand Ive had troubles with other forms of self injury like punching things until my knuckles bled, but i really have a hard time seeing biting as bad because it doesnt leave marks or make me bleed. I know its bad but i dont even do it that often and when i do it feels like I have to because either i made a mistake or people are yelling ….i dunno the only thing i can find on the issue is connected with autism which i know i dont have. Has anyone else dealed with or heard of this problem?

ive heard of lots of people who do things like that. they physically hurt themselves (wether blood is involved or not) to deal with a problem. its not the best thing to do in this situation as it doesnt solve any problems. a lot of the time the person might think the problem is there fault so they fell like they have to punnish themselves by doing harm to there body. the best thing to do would be to stop and discuss the problems you have with the people who cause them.

I can look into it some more, see what the research says. But if it happens around anxiety provoking situations, more than likely it is a self soothing mechanism. Just like the self injury is. I used to dig my nails into my skin. It basically accomplished the same thing. You just have to learn other forms of managing your anxiety. I dont like to use the word bad for things. Lets just say there are more healthy ways of controlling your emotions.
