Are all birth controls only by prescription?

I feel that Im ready to go onto birth control, but I dont want my parents to know and give me the whole ‘’talk’’.

Are all birth control pills perscription only? (Ontario)

Answer #1

depends how old you are I think you may be at least 14 tell your doctor but tell them to keep it a secret…they cant tell your parents if you tell them not to

Answer #2

Condoms - no prescription needed All pills, patches, shots, and IUD’s require a doctor’s visit. Planned Parenthood may be able to steer you toward a low cost or free clinic. Although a doctor won’t (legally can’t) reveal your visit, how arer you going to pay? Insurance co. will reveal that you had a visit, and then you have to explain why you are doing it on the sly. Best to talk with your mom if possible.

Answer #4

now you can get birth control at school at age 11!! but you can go to the health department and get it…without your perants knowing. and the health department peeps can tell.

Answer #5

talk to your parents. they would rather know you are having sex and being safe about it. you have to have a prescription… so good luck

Answer #6

Bear in mind that when you take other medication or have emergency medical treatment, being on the pill can, either seriously or mildly, affect your chances. Your parents are the ones who are likely to be asked about your medical history if you’re in an emergency situation, so to be honest they should know if you go on the pill. I really understand why you’re reluctant to talk to them - believe me, I went though this. But is there any way you can work out how to talk to your mum, at least? (Mums are usually a bit more relaxed than dads about this kind of thing - honestly, most of us remember what it’s like.)
