Can birds swim?
I found birds nest near water, like in weeds above water. The nest is tipping and there are about 3 baby birds in there. The mother is feeding and taking good care of them however iam worried that if the simplest of winds blow the nest will fall and the baby birds will die from the droop or they could dround. I was wondering if anyone knew what I could do. Should I move the nest? ot leave it and hope for the best?
If anyone has Any advice at all please e-mail me at

Many land birds can swim. Chickens, for example, are good swimmers - though I don't know if they can keep it up for a long time, as their feathers presumably are not as waterproof as those of water birds. Ratites (large flightless birds such as ostriches) are said to be excellent swimmers. Oddly enough, apparently there are some sea birds that can't swim.
