Bipolar problem!!!

Ok so im bipolar and I want to try and help control it. Does anyone know of any thing I can do to help control it without pills?

Answer #1

Bipolarity is a chemical imbalance that needs to be chemically balanced. It is not a behavior problem that you can use nutrition on. Please work with your therapist.

Answer #2

Well it hasn’t been attempted before, so this is highly experimental because A. I am SO not a doctor B. Not even doctors have thought up an idea like this So I will try! First of all tell your friends and parents and anybody that might be affected if this goes badly. Get your parents and close friends, and possibly boyfriend/girlfriend, get them on your side and make sure they will be there for you 100%. Next, make a list of everything that makes you happy. Friends, what kind of jokes you like (Jim Carrey versus stand-up comedians), your favorite foods, and keep that handy. Keep a diary or journal. You don’t have to write in it all the time, but when your moods are bad or things start to get out of control, revert to the diary and write down whatever you are feeling or thinking. It doesn’t have to be complete sentences or spelled write:

scared cold alone in love though that is good at leest thunder storm outside dogs barking afraid of storm its annoying cant sleep wish my friend was here.

or whatever. I just made that up as an example… Sunshine is biologically proven to make us happy. It’s what causes us to make vitamin D, which I think there are tablets of that you can take? Not sure. I also think vitamin D is in milk… And here are some for-sure foods that could help:

For a CALM mood:

  1. Strawberries. contains natural fructose, like a good sugar.
  2. Mixed Nuts. contains healthy fats, especially good if there is walnuts, brazil nuts, and/or almonds.
  3. Tea sweetened with milk and honey.
  4. Chocolate. Dark chocolate is better and always just a little bit of it. And there is something called “flavonoids” that help prevent cancer and heart disease! wow! For a HAPPY mood:
  5. Milk. Calcium-rich foods and drinks in general.
  6. Spinach. Dark leafy greens are iron-rich.
  7. Whole grain pasta/bread.
  8. Sunflower seeds. rich in selenium, creates instant happiness.
  9. Tofu. as it turns out it is a healthy alternative to meat AND a mood-lifter. I suggest you add spices or something thought because my friend ate it plain and it tasted like plastic.
  10. Salmon. has plenty of Omega-3 and makes us extra healthy.
  11. Fortified Cereals. look for the term “folic acid” on the Nutrition labels on cereal boxes. And use common sense like choosing Cheerios over Cinnamon Toast Crunch. You know, “whole wheat heart healthy” versus “sugar-loaded artery cloggers”.

and… Ways to prevent Depression:

  1. exercise. Running or bike riding and just breathing that fresh air, and being around people :)
  2. don’t keep those feelings to yourself! They’ll build up and get much bigger than if they were expressed in the first place.
  3. In angry situations, take 2 seconds before exploding. Just two seconds to stop and look and think.
  4. surround yourself in a lively life full of music and friends.
  5. Make goals in life and work hard to achieve them. It is always best to follow what our heart tells us. I.e. if you like painting, paint and never stop!

I got these ideas from a mix of my common sense, being around my depressed best friend, and online suggestions. I’m not sure if this is enough to help Bi Polar, but it is a thought. If anything it MIGHT reduce the amount of pills you have to take. Oh here’s a radical idea that just popped into my head. Try to become the ultimate calm person. You have complete control of yourself. This could include joining a Tai Chi class, where you are supposed to move as slow as possible and have good concentration. Or learn about the Buddhist religion, they are known for their love of nature and being calm.
