Bible Thumpers?

Why are some people so pushy about Religion. I’ve been reading answers to questions and the feeling im getting off people is that: “If you don’t believe what I believe then your just plain stupid”

Why do people have such a problim with people who don’t believe what they believe?

Answer #1

‘Because they CARE - eternity is forever so it’s kind of important - if you choose to reject, fine…Hope this helps !!’

The key word here >>> “ IF “ you choose <<< - no judgement was made or assumed

Answer #2

Because they CARE - eternity is forever so it’s kind of important - if you choose to reject, fine…Hope this helps !!

A Christian is clearly instructed in the Bible - which a true Christian will strive to follow - ‘Go into ALL the world and preach the gospel’ - the word ‘except’ is not used, the word ‘ALL’ is used - so if they’re obedient, doesn’t it follow they’re only doing their job as instructed by God ? - would this mean, approach belivers or non-believers ? - it would appear to be a no-brainer - does a person not have the ability to say ‘I reject that’ and walk away - how hard is that ? - I’m a little slow and certainly not a PHD or great Theologian, far from perfect but I can figure this out :-)

Thanks rnealw - you are indeed a gentleman and a scholar !!…Take care !!

lol way to go Cindy!

Answer #6

Heh- the age old question.

I personally see it stemming from the complete inability for some people to tolerate the ideas of others. Too many times I’ve seen these arguments myself, and it seems to be the aim of everyone involved to prove why they are right and everyone else is wrong.

Apparently, there can’t be any midpoint, and very few times do I see people just “agreeing to disagree”.

Answer #7

I totally agree that G-d wants us to spread His word but I think that spreading it through angry, self-righteous arguments, name calling, and damning someone to hell doesn’t work. “you get more flies with honey than with vinegar” rational communication, the sharing of thoughts and beliefs in a respectful manner will always have a better chance for persuasion. G-d decides our fate.

Answer #8

You forgot the verse Amblessed. . . . So they know where to find it.

And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen. (Mat 28:18-20 KJV)

Answer #10

If you don’t believe as I believe then one of us has to be wrong/stupid. God forbid that that person is me, so it must be you.

I couldn’t have spend all my time and energy believing in something that is erroneous, so the stupid one must be you.

The reason some people are so pushy about their belief is that they are trying to “save” you in accordance with their belief. Another possibility is that they are trying to reaffirm the validity of their belief via any information they may glean from your rebuttal.

It may be hell to be wrong, but it is worse to be “alone”.

Answer #11

People who don’t know why they hold their beliefs tend to get angry and obnoxious when they feel those beliefs are being challenged.

Anytime someone loses it during a discussion, you know they can’t rationally defend their position. In a debate, that would be counted as a win for the level headed person.

Answer #12

But surely, if people “care”, then surely they care enough to respect other people’s wishes not to have religion/absence of religion crammed down their throats?

Answer #13

I don’t reject ,but I don’t shove it down peoples throuts either.People should be aloud believe what they want. I am a Catholic but I don’t judge anyone, I believe the Bible leaves that job up to God.

Answer #14

amen, uncledoody! no one knows what is truly in your heart. so for someone to assume that you are going to hell for eternity based on a simple question, well that is ludicrous.

“Because they CARE - eternity is forever so it’s kind of important - if you choose to reject, fine…Hope this helps !!”

not that those aren’t kind, compassionate words that really let me know you care about my eternity.

Answer #15

I feel it is probably because it is such an important issue. Is there a god, or not? There are those who believe and those who dont…rather wrong or right. Here is a question to ask yourself…If you knew without a single doubt that god was real, and the bible was true…would you want to share your knowledge? I do agree with you that some christians have it all wrong…but we each have the ability to find the truth ourselves. The truth exists and that is a fact. Do you want to know why I thump the bible?… (and yes I am a bible thumperett!!! ) BECause it is a book that holds the past, present, and future.

Answer #16

I don’t think Jesus made disciples by browbeating anyone or trumpeting His own righteousness. Rather he disdained the religious establishment of the day and spent his time with the poor and outcast. He never acted like He was too good to talk to someone and He never forced Himself on anyone.

If believers would act more like their Jesus, they might get less grief from those of us who don’t believe.

Answer #17

And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Mat 28:18-20)

Seems like God expects us to spread the word. And it’s only natural to try and correct one another like Paul corrected Peter.

Answer #18

I decide my fate…

Answer #19

totally, lex icon

Answer #20

Perfectionism. I love Jesus but I don’t try to make anyone feel obligated to believe. Some people and religions want this to obtain more followers.

Answer #21

Cindy- your definetly on the ball on this one. 100% agree
