What are some good basses for cheap?

I might be getting a bass (I prefer 4 stringed) for X-mas. That’s literally all I want for christmas lol. So yeah, I had a Fender Jaguar bass in mind, but I’d rather have an actual bassist’s opinion on what sounds good to them. I’m looking for a smooth sound, kind of Jazzy but also with a Rock feel (if this is making any sense.) Any answer is greatly accepted.

Peavey usually has decent prices, and they’re bass guitars sound really good. I’m not an actual bassist, but I was married to one for a few years. He swore by Peavey. We always went to the local used dealers, and they ran around 200 bucks.

I’d stick with Fender. Either a P bass or Jaguar. They aren’t exactly cheap though, but it’s worth it to pay a little bit more for the quality you will get with a Fender. Especially if it is something you are passionate about.

As for amps, it’s best to go to a store and try them out, to find one which suits the tone you wish to achieve.
