Why do americans suck at geography ?

not all of us suck at geography. we basically have our whole state memorized up and down. we just dont memorize other countries, because it is unlikely that we will move out of the U.S. or even go out of country. plus kids dont have a big enough attention span to learn geography bout the whole world… srry that we dont know it as well as other places. america just works differently I guess

lol gooner I kinda agree with you but only by 30%.. I think America is such a large country with so many states, its no wonder the citizens only remembers their own locations and have no idea where other countries outside USA are located.

Everytime I want a good laugh at the Yanks (lol not being rude here) I watch youtube where Miss Teen South Caroline 2007 is asked a geographical question and omg her answer makes me laugh..( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qQdhMSEqhfg ) .. I’m sure not all Americans are in la la land but after watching this, you do wonder :o

It’s kind of a blanket statement, but I feel it’s because of an element of arrogance. too many people in America expect that the world revolves around us. Having lived in other countries; I’ve seen how hard they try to learn about the different regions and nations. Our schools barely teach the 50 states let alone the locations of the different continents. I will say this though; it is insulting to those who come from somewhere else when we are not even close to getting their homeland identified. Ignorance is not bliss.
