desktop background help can't change to a picture

ok, when I logged onto my computer a minute ago, it wanted me to install “spy marshall”. I’ve never seen that before in my life! so I didn’t. then my background was just gray instead of the pic I had on it. when I went to the control panel, it showed the picture options, but they were gray (ya know, like “inactive” or whatever) and it just said pick a color. I CANNOT figure out how to put my picture back instead of a gray background. PLEASE HELP!!!

What he is trying to say is this. Here is my form of what he said in a install and just do it form, lol.

1ST. Install the 2 programs:

Spybot Search Adaware SE (**Just google it) —POST NOTE: If it still does not work then download HijackThis—

2ND.

Run though’s programs through “safe mode” on your computer. To do that, Re-Boot > Press F8 when you see it > Enter Safe Mode w/o networking

Then you will see a DOS prompt, where you can enter into safe mode. Remember, choose the one w/o networking.

POST NOTE: If these programs are not catching your bugs, then you have to take them out yourself through your registry. Can be tricky*

POST NOTE: The reason your screen is grey is because you have spyware on your computer.

Restore point wont pluck out your bugs, it just restores your explorer and registry for missing things.

Hope that helps!

Run through safe mode w/o networking!!! Its in your hands now, do your best.

You have “spyware”. (or Malware) This is probably a Trojan Downloader type of bug. They aren’t exclusive to pornographic sites, but they are mostly found on these types of websites. Run Spybot Search & Destroy, Adaware SE,(free programs) and if you are still having troubles then download HijackThis (also free) and email me a log file.

You need to run these programs in Windows Safe mode. Restart your computer and tap F8 at the bios load screen or whatever screen comes up before your Windows Splash screen, this will bring up a DOS prompt that you can choose to enter into Safe Mode (choose the option for Windows Safe Mode with no networking). If these programs are not catching the bug that has hijacked your desktop (which is why it is gray) then you may have to manually pluck out the bugs in the registry which can get a little tricky and could be a problem if you deleted the wrong thing). Hope that you can get one of the spyware removers I mentioned to work for you.

If you have a “restore point” that you can dial the computer back to an earlier time then try that first before doing anything I mentioned above. However do download the three programs and run them periodically and never trust other odd programs that claim to be spyware removers.

Also think about switching to using Firefox for your internet browser rather than Internet Explorer. That will prevent this from happening again.
