How do babies breathe in the womb?

Aren’t they swimming in like a jelly type thing the whole time they’re in there? How do they get air?

Answer #1

they do not “breath” the get there air from fluids and blood. there 1st breath is when they are born

Answer #2

through the mothers umbilical cord (when the baby is born you know the big cord that is attached to the belly button, and doctors cut it ) thats where babies get oxygen and all the nutrients they need to live! Birth is an amazing process eh… , babies take in the oxygen through cell.s, they cant “breathe” because the little guys/girls are floating around in liquid. hope that helps. lol interesting fact also, did you know when the baby goes poo or pee, it is transfered to the mother and she gets rid of it. cool eh lol

Answer #3

Does their first breath hurt?

Answer #4

I dont think so. but the baby crys because it doesnt know whats going on. and is scared

Answer #5

no its more of a shock… its a big change for them.. when they start to breath and cry it clears the rest of the fluid out of the lungs

Answer #6

The above answers are correct but i wanted to correct something that Trudell said that is false. A babies urine and feces are not transfered through the mother and then disposed of. A fetus urinates into the amniotic fluid that it is floating around in and swallows. It might sound gross but its the way of life. Also, a fetus does not produce feces while in the womb in most cases. Their first bowel movement is AFTER they are born and is black and tar like. There are cases in which a fetus will have their first bowel movement in the womb and it usually occurs in babies that are overdue. In that case the baby has to recieve medication so help prevent any infections it might get from swallowing its feces.

Answer #7

Answer #8
