I found a baby red bird on the ground and need to know how to care for it.We have no animal control near by nor a a vet willing to take on the job.It has feathers and was hopping around all day trying to fly.It can only get a few inches off the ground and doesn't have much of a tail yet.The parent birds spent all day watching the baby but all the commotion attracted a stray cat so I had to pick it up.
First off you might want to try putting near the nest, the parents might have been trying to teach it to fly. Watch it, if it is trying to learn to fly you should be able to leave it, but if you want watch for stray cats.
If the parents chase it away it could be sick, take it to a vet. If it's sick (or once it is healthy), and it's young feed it a mix of milk, bread and worms microwaved together. As it gets older obviously ween it onto larger, live incests.
