How do Muslims defend this?

After doing some more research regarding the topic of Ayesha, the 9 yr old wife of Muhammad which was consumated at that age, my new question (after the old one was deleted for some reason) is how do muslims defend this? Its an honest question and I just would like honest responses. Thanks.

Aisha’s parents were the ones who married her to our Prophet, and that no Muslim or even pagan objected to the marriage because it was widely practiced. And even until today in 3rd world countries (Muslims and non-Muslims), little girls as young as 9 or 10 do get married. Anyway, the reason no one objected was to the Prophet’s marriage was:

People used to have very short life-spans in Arabia. They used to live between 40 to 60 years maximum. So it was only normal and natural for girls to be married off at ages 9 or 10 or similar.

Marriage for young girls was widely practiced among Arabs back then, and even today in many third-world non-Muslim and Muslim countries

Child brides as young as 8 (eight) were common among the Byzantine emperors and nobility It is important to know that girls during the Biblical and Islamic days used to be married off at young ages when they either had their first periods, or their breasts start showing off. In other words, when they turn into “women”, then they get married off. It was quite different for men on the other hand, because physical power and the ability of living an independent life had always been and will always be a mandatory requirement for men to have in life. So men waited much longer than women in terms of getting married. The guy had to develop both his body and mind before he was ready for marriage.

That is why you see girls as young as 9 or 10 were married to men as old as 30 or even older. The culture back then and in many third world countries today (NON-MUSLIM ONES TOO) is quite different than what you live in today.

Prophet Muhammad’s marriage with Aisha was 100% legal and acceptable by all laws and Divine Religions!

So to call Prophet Muhammad a pedophile for marrying a girl that was OFFERED TO HIM by her parents and was accepted by all of the people back then including the enemies of Islam, the pagans, is quite absurd.

The pedophilia in the bible was quite different, because girls were raped at 3-years of age by Moses and his men.

Also, in Exodus 21:7-11 as further elaborated on below, girls were sold off as slave girls by their own fathers to other men.
Also today, the Jewish law for marriage sets the age of consent for females at 11. (Consent is only one way of marriage) I do not know if modern Jewish law still allows (in theory) betrothal by intercourse as it was practiced in ancient times.

Thirty years ago, the renowned sexologist R.E.L. Masters and Allan Edwardes said in their study of Afro-Asian sexual expression (The Cradle of Erotica, Julian Press, New York:1962) said, “Today, in many parts of North Africa, Arabia, and India, girls are wedded and bedded between the ages of five and nine; and no self-respecting female remains unmarried beyond the age of puberty.”

* Also, the age consent in the US and Europe only 100 years ago for girls’ marriage was as little as 10, and some popular men figures married little girls who were as young as their daughters.

The wife of ‘Uthman bin Maz’un (ra)broached the subject of marriage, saying: ‘’will you not marry, O Messenger of Allah?’’ He said: ‘’whom?’’ ‘’If you wish, a virgin and if you wish, a woman who has been married before.’’ He said: ‘’who is the virgin?’’ she replied: ‘’the daughter of the most beloved person in Allah’s creation to you, ‘Aishah, bint Abu Bakr.’’ He said: ‘’and who is the previously married woman?’’ she replied: ‘’she is Sawdah bint Zam’ah; she believes and follows what you say and she is a virtuous Muslim woman’’.

After thinking for a long time, the messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)said: ‘’But Aisha is still a small child’’.

Khwalah (ra) said: you may propose to her, then leave her in her parent’s house until she is of marriageable age’’. he said: ‘’then go and mention my proposal to them’’.

Thulsu, yes Mohammed did marry Ayesha when she was young enough for him to carry on his shoulders (tradition gives this).He did consumate the marriage when she was quite young, and the reasons any muslim would give would follow these lines. 1)The marriage was a product of its time.Hence, he married her when she was young, but at an age she could get married in arabia at that time. 2)It strengthened the relationship between Mohammed and Abu Bakr.Abu Bakr did look upon Mohammed as a brother but Mohammed claimed that God had told him to marry Ayesha. 3)This is something I thought quite interesting.Ayesha is one of the most important contributors to hadith - not only did her proximity to Mohammed allow her to record more hadith than others, but her being a women enabled hadith that pertain specifically to women to be recorded and she herself served as the one who questioned Mohammed on women, to only have him expound on it.

Now,I am not a Moslem anymore, and have my own views of Mohammed, but these are how any well read Moslem would answer.

I said that before, the circumstances in arabian countries are different from the west, here in hot regions girls grow faster, and in the past young girls were considered adults as long as they have their periods, and they can get married with their approval not against it , and I can see here everyday questions from 13 years old pregnant girls asking if they should have the baby or not , so if they can have sex and have babies , they can get married too, don’t believe anything you see on the internet, and it wasn’t rape or something as some people said before ,she was his wife,and she approved to marry him,she loved him so much, besides she was and still very important woman in islamic history cause she taught muslim women about islam and their rights, wish you all love and peace.

Alysha khan is true,, please never creat doubts,, who know abt the realities,,, never underestimate or overestimate a true person, she , neither his father was not forced to marry him and if he marrried her at little age how some one can prove that he necessarily develope sexual relation at initial stage,,, I think she was very brillient , younger, intelligent and well matured so almighty Allah wish to develop islam through her everlasting efforts,,, but Allah know all the best and we have to believe about the oinnocentcy and truthfulness of the Holy Prophet pleaseee. as we respect all other prophets including your alls
