Is an attorney and a lawyer the same thing?

In the US, sure. In some countries, you might have two different words and one actually means you can argue a case in court.

In United state the terms are interchangeable that means there is no difference. Both can be used for the same purposes.

But in Canada, England and Australia there is some difference. because An attorney and a lawyer are used in different purposes in these countries.
