Can I move out at 17?

I’m 16 years old and soon to be 17 in just a few months. I know that the legal age to move out in Nebraska is 18 but could I possibly be able to move out at 17? If I can, would my parent’s be able to do anything about it, such as get the law involved??

Answer #1

I’m sure you could live with someone you know enstead of living on your own. I’m sure that you can move out at 17 but, if your parents do take you to court, you can always testify against them. Good luck and, hope you accomplish the move.

Okay just so ALL OF YOU KNOW… I’d be living with my boyfriend. We’ve been together for two years… He’s not going to kick me out. OK?

You can’t sign a lease, because you are under the legal age to sign a contract. People can say “Oh, but you can get a lease with an older friend and get them to sign”- that’s all good and well, but think about it- if you fall ou with them, they can kick you out at a moment’s notice, and you don’t have a legal leg to stand on.

Do the smart thing, and wait til you’re at the legal age where you can do all of this stuff.

Well if you have an older friend you can let them put the lease in their name and pay half the rent and on your parents if they took you to court you could possibly get out of it! My sister moved out at 17 and my mom said she was going to call the cops but yes you are legally allowed to move out! just not put a apartment in your name! Look it up on http://www.Google.com .
