Are zebras black with white stripes, or the other way around?

Are zebras black with white stripes, or the other way around? I’ve often wondered. Ever since I saw the movie “madagascar” with my kids, I’ve been confused. Any ideas?

i have no idea but at a guess i would say white, if you look under the tummy and the inside of the legs on your pic its more white

they are black, there feet are black, the white is just for camaflouge. they are black with white stripes

zebras are dark brown and white not black and white. pointless info i know but…

zebras are in fact born white and then they grow stripes.

Zebras are actually white with black, and magichalo1, the chicken is the egg and the egg is the chicken.

and yes there skin is black BUT polar bear skin is black but you dont call them black do you? and you judge horses and dogs etc via there primary hair colour AND some zebras are born with genetic variations that make them all black with white stripes, or mostly dark with the striped pattern only on part of their coats but the majority are white ^_^
