Are ferris wheel rides safe for kids?

Do you think ferris wheel rides are safe for kids, say 4 or 5? My boys were nervous about going on the ferris wheel today, and while I’ve never tried one myself, I do think it would be fun. They are tall enough, but seemed too nervous to try it out.

Is the ferris wheel a carnival ride my kids will have to skip till they’re older, or do you think I should try to ‘sell’ them on the idea more next time?

I would encourage your children to try new things, but i’d make sure they weren’t utterly terrified, and i’d go with them. There’s a difference between beoing nervous and utterly terrified. Most kids end up liking the ferris wheel, because it is a nice slow ride =)

It depends. The carnivals that travel from city to city have to break down and rebuild the ferris wheel and other rides each time. This can be good or bad. Good because the workers can spot a possible defect as they do the assembly. Bad because the structure is in components and therefore weaker than a rigid stationary structure. Your city is required to inspect all rides before the carnival begins. Contact the public safely officer to see if this was performed. In a general sense any structure can fail, so the decision is always yours to make. However every kid should experience the thrill of the ride. You can protect your children without overprotecting.

My children loved the ferris wheel once they got on it. But there are some that I won’t take them on. They are usually the one that comes around with the county fair in this area. We had a pretty scarey experience of my youngest son almost slid out from under a bar on a ride that was supposed to go in circles but not fast. Luckily I was there with him and held on to him but we won’t go to fairs again. I’ll only take them to parks where the rides are permanent!

well my dad gets tickets for ceader point every year and i am terrified of roller coasters. Every year that we went my dad would say he was waisting his money and everything and i would get so upset that i would feel sick so i don’t think selling them into riding the ferris wheel would be a good idea . Just wait till there ready . i choose myself and i kinda like them now.
