Anglo-saxon riddle
A beautiful being floating on her watery path, Calling gloriously from water to land, Resounding loudly. Her laughter was terrible, Fearful in the dwellings of men. Her edges were sharp. Though slow to combat, she was hateful and cruel, Bitter in battle, breaking ships hulls In crushing destruction. Bound in secret hate, She said craftifily after her nature, “My mother, one of my dearest maidens, Is also my daughter, strong and great, Known to all nations as on earth she falls, Standing beloved in everthing by all lands.”
