What do you believe America's greatest right of freedom is?

Answer #1

I believe that our greatest freedom is freedom of expression. Without this nothing else really matters. Freedom of expression is also the thing governments take back when overreaching their authority. Speaking out against wars is often punishable as sedition. At one time in Virginia stating that you felt slave owners had no right to own other human beings was punishable by 1 year in jail. Margaret Sanger was arrested in the 20’s for talking about birth control. During our red scare any speech that presented a “clear and present danger” was banned and some were arrested for even belonging to groups considered radical by the government. Currently any information classified as “secret” by governments can not be disclosed. There does seem to be a concerted effort to classify embarrassing facts secret to stifle speech.
