How would an airport handle a "patdown" of a cancer patient who has a colostomy bag?

My father is going to be flying soon and is nervous since the crackdown are happening in airports and passengers are being pated down now. He has a colostomy bag and is afraid of them rupturing it or loosening it causing an “accident” that would be super embaressing. Does anyone know how they handle this situation?

Answer #1

If you tell them your situation ahead of time, before they start patting him down…I would imagine they would be considerate enough to be very careful when patting him down, or may let him pass without searching him.

Answer #2

There was a story on the news and this happened. They didn’t do anything they finished patting him down and let him go.

Answer #3

I called an airport and asked. They said as long as they provide a medical certificate or a doctors note etc. they are allowed to bring the colostomy bag on board as a carry on & they will not be patted down.

Answer #4

They don’t pat everyone down. They only select certain individuals for the special scan, and of those, only the ones who refuse get patted down. You’re 25, odds are your dad is close to or above 45. Which means unlikely to be selected. Get a doctors note, and he should be fine.

Answer #5

very carefully
