How to stop my ears from popping on an airplane?

You want them to pop. If they don’t the uneven pressure will drive you insane! At least that is the way it is with me.

I just had my first ride a few weeks ago. The truth is, if you don’t worry about it, your ears won’t pop. I tried it and it worked great. All I had to do is keep myself busy, either talking to other people or looking out the window and my ears didn’t pop.

A good swallow is usually all you need to do. But if that doesn’t work, then do the following:

With your mouth closed, pinch your nose closed and VERY GENTLY, blow (keeping both the mouth closed and nose pinched simultaneously). This will force a pressure adjustment in your ears. This procedure is deemed safe (as long as you don’t go nuts when you’re blowing) and is used by divers to adjust for pressure changes as well.

eat a dildo

chew gum and bring a bottle of water :) anything to make you swallow helps them pressurize properly.

Try yawning when you feel them start to pop! I didn’t really have trouble my first time, but my brother was tweaking out with pain… So it varies, but I don’t think the average person will have severe trouble. Have an awesome vacation!
